PROGRAM
The Pitt Ohio Hazelton addition and renovation project includes considerable improvements throughout the facility. The design team was tasked with increasing truck capacity for the site as well as improving internal functionality and experience for drivers and staff. The terminal addition adds 36 truck doors and dock seals. Each door has a clerestory translucent panel above to allow natural light into the building year-round. Ventilation sensors control high and low velocity fans to maintain clean air quality throughout the terminal to improve light and air quality.
The new dock tower has been placed between the new and existing portions of the terminal and is elevated to provide unobstructed views of the entire terminal. Adjacent to the dock tower are 6 new electric charging stations for forklifts. Other sustainable features of the facility include waterless urinals to reduce usage. Durable finishes and strategic bollard placement ensure the longevity of the facility for many years to come.
The new vehicle maintenance garage (VMG) contains four drive-through bays. This increases the capacity considerably beyond the two bays of the existing VMG (without the ability to drive through). The 26-foot-high space allows lots of natural light through clerestory translucent panels on all sides. A mezzanine allows for added functionality in a compact footprint. Integral radiant floor heating provides a comfortable work environment year-round.
